Winter Blues: How to Style Our Fave Blue Shades!
The holidays may be winding down, but winter is still here to stay! So even though we may be packing away our festive bright reds and sparkling sequins, we still have a lot of cold weather to dress for. This of course makes us wonder–how should I style the rest of my winter wardrobe? Our answer is simple: focus on blues! Blue is a shade that’s perfect for the winter-time blues of January and February. Not too festive, but certainly not too boring, using blue tones works to create an effortless & modern winter vibe.
Here are some tips on how to build a blue-hue outfit for winter!
Blue can often be a tricky color to add into your closet. Since blue is so versatile & varied in its depth, it can be difficult to decide how to style your blue pieces so that they don’t clash or blend in too much. But, this is also what makes blue tones such a great addition to your wardrobe! Since there are so many different shades and tones of blues, it makes it easy to find ones that can easily be incorporated into your everyday staples.
For an Easy & Relaxed Everyday Look–Light Blue:
January is a great time of the year to stay cozy and comfortable, especially as we make it through the chillest days of winter! So, it’s always good to have a few easy-to-wear basics in your closet that are both really cute and really comfy. We love this light blue tunic top because of how soft and snuggly it is, plus the longer length is perfect to wear with a basic black legging or your fave dark wash skinnies. And these dark blue winter boots are super cute to pair with this outfit as well since it plays off the blue theme in a modern, gradient type of way–while also staying extra warm. Pair this cozy plaid shacket for the ultimate ‘mountain-chic’ look!

Another one of our fave easy-to-wear, everyday tops is this chambray blue long sleeve. The fun grommet neckline adds a bit of visual interest, while still maintaining a relaxed and laid-back feel. It’s also ultra soft and lightweight, which makes it ideal for layering under a shacket or coatigan on a snowy day without getting too warm or constricted. Plus, it’s great to wear on its own once you warm up or as we transition to spring. This super light gray-blue gives us major coastal vibes–even in a Colorado winter–so play off those tones with a soft cream cardigan and relaxed jeans straight leg jeans. This neckline is perfect for a necklace, so add one with subtle green & blue colors to really tie together the coastal vibe of this winter-ready look.

For a Bold & Bright Look–Bright Cobalt Blue:
If you appreciate a daring outfit with bright and bold colors, then a bright cobalt blue is perfect to add to your winter wardrobe. This bright tone is even great on a spring day, so it will certainly get lots of use in your rotation of clothes. For an office-to-evening look, we are obsessed with this bright blue sweater. The stripe detail on the arms also adds a flattering and eye-catching focal point to add a little drama and break up all the blue. This bright blue looks great with a black trouser pant or a really dark wash skinny to let it be the star of the show. Adding a bold orange crossbody gives even more drama to this fierce look while adding a nice amount of contrast!

We also love this cobalt blue tee since it is such a great layering piece through winter, but then it can be worn alone as it (eventually) warms up. The twist in the front of this top adds a bit of modern detail, while also creating a super flattering shape. Plus, the wider arms are comfortable and cool for those who get easily overheated, while still being easy to layer under a blazer or cardigan. We recommend a bold flare leg pant to really make this top pop! Plus, these blue and sterling silver earrings & necklace are the perfect match to this pretty top. Such a great look for work or a business casual event!

For a Neutral & Modern Look–Navy Blue:
If neutrals are your thing, blue is a great way to jump into a little winter-y color. A deep shade of navy blue is a perfect neutral with just a little more ‘oomph’ to it! We love this tee with a tonal polka-dot pattern since it adds texture, pattern, and a little color without being overwhelming at all. It’s a great first layer under a black blazer or cream cardigan too! Pair this dark shade of blue with light wash denim to give it some contrast. Add a trendy hoop earring in neutral gray tones to really give this outfit a modern look, while playing off the circle design & keeping it in the neutral color palette!

You can elevate the tonal vibe of this outfit by adding a warm & cozy navy cardigan on top. By keeping all the layers on top in the same tone, it creates a modern & dressed-up vibe. It’s also super flattering since it creates a seamless look. But, this cardigan looks just as cute with a white tee underneath if you aren’t into the tonal vibe! You can wear a black suede pant instead to make this a refined work-friendly look too.
