A capsule wardrobe is all the rage right now, and for good reason too! We love creating a mindful and purposeful closet, with each piece being able to effortlessly rotate into a variety of looks. It’s a win-win–great for your wallet and your storage space! But, it can often be challenging to know what pieces will work for all your needs. Here are some tips on how to get started on curating your own mini capsule wardrobe, with pieces that will take you from day to night!
Let’s Start from the Bottom
A black trouser pant that fits you just right is the perfect starting place for any capsule wardrobe. For the evening, create a dramatic look by pairing these jeans with a black top and shoes or wear with a bright satin top for a more glam look!
It’s All About Layers!
Now that we have our bottoms together, the next step is to build a variety of mix-and-match styles to rotate through on top! The best way to do this is to have a few really great layering pieces. Let’s start with one of our favorites: the blazer! Blazers are iconic and timeless. Perfect for taking a professional look up a notch, but also great for adding a bit of glam to a dressy evening look! Plus, the slightly relaxed fit is effortlessly chic–not too trendy & oversized, nor too fitted & pant-suit like! The sleeves on this blazer are also great since they are rolled up slightly–which really helps it transition between formal and professional to fun and flirty based on whatever you wear it with! Wear it with the black trousers and a printed blouse for a business meeting, then pair it with a tee and the light wash skinny for drinks after!
Next up is a classic: a structured open front cardigan! I don’t know about you, but I have been wearing cardigans like this for YEARS and I always still reach for one when building an effortless dressed up or down outfit. This style of cardigan offers a dressier and more classic look compared to the trendy oversized & chunky knit cardigans that are so in trend now. And while those sure are cute, you’ll definitely find that a neutral toned and sleek cardigan is far more versatile for a minimalist closet! This mocha color is our personal fave because it balances well with either the black trouser pant or the light skinny jean, while still being modern and easy to wear a variety of tops! Keep it casual with a jewel-toned tee and light wash jeans for drinks with the girls, or dress it up with trouser pants and a white blouse for the office!
